Big Sky | Moonlight Basin | Spanish Peaks | Yellowstone Club

The hamlet of Big Sky sits tucked into the Madison Mountain Range, 40 miles to the south of Yellowstone International Airport and the Bozeman/Belgrade area.  Part of ‘Yellowstone Country’, Big Sky is reached by a scenic drive through Gallatin Canyon, winding on Route 191 alongside the Gallatin River.

Big Sky is broken into two ‘sections’.  The meadow village and the mountain village.  Big Sky also is partially in Gallatin County and partially in Madison County.  Surrounded by forest, scrub, the Spanish Peaks Primitive Area and the Gallatin National Forest, it is a recreationalists’ dream location.  Lone Peak anchors the skyline, reaching to 11,166 feet.  Lone Peak is home to one massive ski resort, a combination of Big Sky and Moonlight Basin, also known as the Biggest Skiing in America. Just down the roadway is a world class nordic skiing outfit, the Lone Mountain Ranch. Spanish Peaks Resort has reemerged on the luxury markets and is a mountain oasis of private skiing and private golf.

The Yellowstone Club is a private residential community that features it’s own private ski resort and golf club with world class terrain and amenities.  The resort is closed to the general public. The Yellowstone Club has resurfaced successfully after a restructuring as a premier location for luxury ski homes and condos. There is access via Southern Comfort lift at Big Sky for Yellowstone Club members to access the Biggest Skiing in America.

The community of Big Sky has shifted into a year round resort and desirable location to live year round.  A new high school was recently built and the community has embraced summer as well as winter, featuring weekly summer farmers markets, outdoor concerts and the annual PBR Rodeo.   Golf, tennis, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, downhill and cross-country skiing, sleigh rides and snowmobiling are all spoken here. Big Sky began offering rides on the Lone Peak tram this past summer.

Big Sky is located only 48 miles from the West Yellowstone entrance to Yellowstone National Park, America’s first and most popular National Park.
